Finished reading: The Impossible Wizard by James E Wisher ๐
โ โ โ โโBook one of the Aegis of Merlin, I rather enjoyed it.
-
Finished reading: Resistance Above Magic 2 by B.T. Narro ๐
โ โ โโโThe second book in the series, it was good to see where the story went but the cliffhanger was rather annoying; I guess I’ll have to wait for the next book. ๐คฃ

Finished reading: Unexpected Healer by Jonathan Brooks ๐
โ โ โโโThis one randomly showed up as a suggested read on my Kindle and I decided to give it a shot. It was pretty one dimensional but highly entertaining…and it set the stage for an interesting series (if the author continues, of course).
-
Finished reading: The Gorgon Incident and Other Stories by John Bierce ๐
โ โ โ โโHaving finished the Mage Errant series last year, it was rather nice to go back to the same world / universe, to revisit and reminisce.
-
Finished reading: The Price Of Power by B. K. Cook ๐
โ โ โโโThe last book of the series (though, the author makes it pretty clear they’ll be continuing the books), this one felt a little rushed and you could see the ending coming a mile away but it was still a satisfying conclusion.
-
Finished reading: In Clawed Grasp by Seth Richter ๐
โ โ โ โ โI went into this not expecting much but wow, was I surprised: this book was great. The “leveling system” is both more and less well-defined than many other books in the LitRPG genre, which is awesome. I can’t wait for the second one! ๐
-
Finished reading: Resistance Above Magic by B.T. Narro ๐
โ โ โโโI wouldn’t call it “great literature” but it was a fun read, very much reminding me of my time playing WoW, with all the talk about skill trees, leveling, & stat bonuses from gear. ๐ฎ
-
Finished reading: Rune Seeker 2 by J.M. Clarke & C.J. Thompson ๐
โ โ โ โโThe second book of the series, this follows up directly to the ending of the last one…and boy, does it deliver. This one couldn’t exist without the first but it’s much better; we finally get some (fascinating) backstory. ๐ก๏ธ๐ก๏ธ

Finished reading: Path of Stars by David North ๐
โ โ โ โโMy least favorite of the series since book one, I finished this last night. The one places more emphasis on the main character, which is good but abandons almost all the other ones. It’s also a bit…meandering. Still, excited for the next one.
-
Finished reading: Astral Threads by David North ๐
โ โ โ โโI finished reading this last night (woke up with the kindle on my chest)… ๐คญ It’s the fourth of the series and progresses nicely but leaves you with a giant cliffhanger. ๐ฑ That said, each book is better than the previous.

Year In Books - 2023
I didn’t get nearly as much reading done in 2023 as I’d planned but that’s just the way the cookies crumble. I plan to do more reading in 2024 and spend some of my reading time focusing on books outside the fantasy / sci-fi genre. Note: I only started using โฆ read more
-
Finished reading: Moonlight Relic by David North ๐
โ โ โ โโIn third of the series, the main character (Sam) really starts coming into his ownโฆwith a remarkable and rather unbelivable number of twists. Parts of the story are rather predictable but others, you never see them coming. ๐คฃ
-
Finished reading: Aster Fall by David North ๐
โ โ โ โโThe second of the series, this picks up right after the first and the main character (and secondary ones) progresses (it is LitRPG after all) nicely, setting the stage for bigger progression in the next book.
-
Finished reading: Battlefield Reclaimer by David North ๐
โ โ โ โโThis book, a re-read for me, is the first book of the Guardian of Aster Fall series and in my opinion, sets up the universe for said series rather nicely. The character development is decent and the RPG improvement system is very cool.
-
Finished reading: Second Hand by Heidi Cullinan ๐
โ โ โ โโThis was a re-read, from many years ago (it was one of the first e-books I bought, this story is light and fluffy with a predictable ending…and an adorable puppy. ๐ณ๏ธโ๐
