Finished reading: Rune Seeker 2 by J.M. Clarke & C.J. Thompson π
β β β ββThe second book of the series, this follows up directly to the ending of the last oneβ¦and boy, does it deliver. This one couldnβt exist without the first but itβs much better; we finally get some (fascinating) backstory. π‘οΈπ‘οΈ

Finished reading: Path of Stars by David North π
β β β ββMy least favorite of the series since book one, I finished this last night. The one places more emphasis on the main character, which is good but abandons almost all the other ones. Itβs also a bitβ¦meandering. Still, excited for the next one.

Finished reading: Astral Threads by David North π
β β β ββI finished reading this last night (woke up with the kindle on my chest)β¦ π€ Itβs the fourth of the series and progresses nicely but leaves you with a giant cliffhanger. π± That said, each book is better than the previous.

Year In Books - 2023
I didnβt get nearly as much reading done in 2023 as Iβd planned but thatβs just the way the cookies crumble. I plan to do more reading in 2024 and spend some of my reading time focusing on books outside the fantasy / sci-fi genre.
Note: I only started using Micro.blogβs bookshelf feature midway through the year.

Finished reading: Moonlight Relic by David North π
β β β ββIn third of the series, the main character (Sam) really starts coming into his ownβ¦with a remarkable and rather unbelivable number of twists. Parts of the story are rather predictable but others, you never see them coming. π€£

Finished reading: Aster Fall by David North π
β β β ββThe second of the series, this picks up right after the first and the main character (and secondary ones) progresses (it is LitRPG after all) nicely, setting the stage for bigger progression in the next book.

Finished reading: Battlefield Reclaimer by David North π
β β β ββThis book, a re-read for me, is the first book of the Guardian of Aster Fall series and in my opinion, sets up the universe for said series rather nicely. The character development is decent and the RPG improvement system is very cool.

Finished reading: Second Hand by Heidi Cullinan π
β β β ββThis was a re-read, from many years ago (it was one of the first e-books I bought, this story is light and fluffy with a predictable endingβ¦and an adorable puppy. π³οΈβπ

Finished reading: The Unlikely Heir by Jax Calder π
β β β ββFun, light, fluffyβ¦with just a hint of substance, this book was a fun read. π³οΈβπ

Finished reading: Dead Tired by Ravens Dagger π
β β βββA fun, if silly read, with a lot of puns. π It presents an interesting intersection between science and magic but I wish there was a little more details into the magic system.
-
Finished reading: Imperial Wizard: Ambitions by J Parsons π
β β βββSomewhat predictable, the second book in the series continues right where the first left off. Events turn out for the best but more than a few questions are raised about how things will go in the future. π€

Finished reading: Imperial Wizard by J Parsons π
β β βββThis was a fun read, a magic users sleeps through what seems to be many cataclysms, awaking to a changed world, one where no one else knows how to use his type of magic.
-
Finished reading: Weeping Of Willows by Brandon Cook π
β β β ββThe second book of the series, I thought this was going to be predictable but it took some interesting and unexpected turns. Iβm excited for the next book in the series (I really hate having to wait for βnext booksβ π).

Finished reading: The House of Fire by Brandon Cook π
β β β ββI seem to be reading a lot of LitRPG books lately (as a recovering gaymer, that isnβt shocking), this one was a fun read. The main character slowly becomes more than he started and itβs predictable but still enjoyable.
-
Finished reading: Loremaster by M.E. Robinson π
β β β ββAnother one in the LitRPG genre, I was pleasantly surprised by this book; it started off slow but I became very invested in the story relatively fast. The class / magic system isnβt as well defined as other books but itβs a very good read. ππ»
