Election 08

Did you vote today? I’ve been asked that question five times today and it isn’t even 8:30 yet. Surely people can see the sticker on my shirt. I really just want to yell at them because the question is becoming most tiresome.
Of course, I can completely understand why everyone is asking: they are worried and nervous. This has been one hell of an election cycle and the two choices for our future president are standing at the top of the ballot today. If too many people make the wrong choice today, we’ll have another term of George W. Bush when what we really need is a person, man or woman, black or white, who will stand for almost exactly the opposite of the Bush era.
Based on that, you can probably figured out who for who I voted however you may just be wrong. Conciser this: both presidential campaigns have tried to paint their opponents as the next George W. Bush (which I find rather hysterical). One succeeded and the other failed. I will say that I voted for the man who is less likely to continue Bush’s legacy.
Either way, I’ve done my civil duty today (bright and early at 6am) and encourage everyone else to do the same. It seems too often I hear people say that it doesn’t matter if they go to the polls, their vote wont count. To them, I answer with this: do you remember what happened in Florida? A few more votes could have made the difference. Do we really want to go through all of that again and live with the consequences? The obvious answer is NO, we don’t.
