Tidal Wave

It was actually kind of funny how it all happened. Amanda and I were talking and I mentioned all the work headed in my direction from Creative and how Kelly had given it the term tidal wave (this was last week). A few minutes later, the water finally hit. Kelly wandered over to my desk and asked if I had freaked out yet. I didn’t know what she was talking about, so I checked my email. The further my eyes got down the screen, the further my mind slipped into full panic mode.
I have an impossible deadline at work. Well, not completely impossible, but the rest of this week is going to be hell on earth. Granted, I’ve gotten much better at working in the system than back in April when the Party Pack promo hit me at full speed and I had to work the weekend. After that thought occurred to me, I started to calm down…until I asked Kelly if Marc would be able to help if I got stuck… I guess I’d been so wrapped up in rewriting the admin interface I hadn’t noticed Marc was out this week!
I read this (I was IMing Kelly with questions) and my mouth dropped open! It had to be a joke! Yea, that was it, Kelly was playing a cruel joke on me. That thought lasted a grand total of five seconds before the terrible truth hit me: Marc was gone and I was all on my own to get the Tough Bag promotion up in Dev by the end of Friday.
After that (and a bit of work on the main page) I came to the conclusion I wasn’t going to get anything else done as my mind was racing down the corridors of insanity at warp speed. So I went biking and it was perfect. I didn’t think about work at all, just on the dull yet constant pain in my knee. My iPod droned on, the wind howled (well maybe not that strong but it was pretty annoying), and the scenery was a blur.
As I was driving home, I realized that even though this time line would probably kill me, I really didn’t need to be going crazy over it. After all, I’ve been working with this piece of $hit called Atlas for over three months and I’ve gotten to be pretty proficient. The task might be slightly more difficult with Marc not in the picture, but I’m going to think positive for a change and believe I’ll actually get the project done on time!
…Of course, I’ll be working ungodly hours to do so, but that’s just the nature of the job…
