Saturday Crêpes

I hadn’t planned on riding on Saturday. Instead, I had envisioned sleeping till 10ish and then reading a book (I’m trying to reread (I say trying because I don’t really have much time anymore) the Wheel of Time series) until about 2ish. Fortunately, things didn’t work out that way. Shannon ended up inviting me to ride with her in Shelia in what she termed as the Tour de Crêpe, with the premise being crêpes in the middle of the ride.
So we (as in Shanon and myself) started out bight and early at 5 or 6 (who really knows, it was way too early) and headed in the direction of Shelia. After piddling about her place for a bit (it was still too early, so I had no perception of time) we took off like a snail stuck on honey. After riding through various woods (Kirkwood, Webster Groves, Mapplewood), the three of us finally ended up in Forest Park (arriving at different times of course).
After picking up Hans, we headed down towards Washington Ave and food. For the life of me, I can’t remember the name of the place, but I ate the best crêpe of my life there! So Tasty! It was perfect and if the day had ended there, it would have been simply amazing.
Unfortunately, the ride didn’t end there. Shannon and I made record time (considering the amount of cars we had to dodge) to our pit stop (Shelia’s family’s’ print shop) and eagerly awaited the glories Technical Services Manager. After she showed up and the three of us parted ways (Shelia needed a longer break and both Shannon and I didn’t have the time), we slowly made out ways up an endless supply of hills in an effort to get back to Valley Park. For those of you who’ve never ridden with me, I have a tendency to plow up hills and put for far too much effort into said plowing. I had been find with that practice the entire ride…until we hit the 37 mile marker. After that I was dead to the world.
We did eventually make it back (after both of us freaked out and thought our tires were going flat) and on our way out of the big VP, stopped by Star Bucks for some delicious chai and pumpkin bread. Sadly, my USB cord for my Garmin is missing so I can’t put a map up here but we ended up biking about 45 miles (and I burned a ridiculous amount of calories).
