Harry Potter Snob

The combination of a cold, rain, work, and a facebook poll all conspired to keep me away from Harry Potter. As it turned out they did, if only for a bit. I arrived at the movie theater on time but completely famished, so Diane suggested we go to a later showing of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and in the mean time grab a quick bit to eat. Of course my stomach whole-heartedly agreed! After all, when has it ever disagreed?
We ended up walked over to Friday’s and miraculous only had to wait about ten minutes. After a bunch of babbling, followed by eating interspersed with more talked, and then walking back to the theater talking… Are you seeing a pattern here? Diane and I hadn’t seen each other in weeks or been talking very much, so we had a lot of catching up to condense in a short amount of time. All in all, I think we did very well at the job.
To cut to the chase (which is a good thing since I’m sick and really need to get some sleep), I was actually disappointed with the movie… Don’t get me wrong, its a good movie and totally worth seeing. My problem is the movie shreds the book…not as much as the other movies, but enough… They added a great deal but left out an insane amount of detail (such as…oh I don’t know…the reason Voldemort went after Harry and not Neville)! I was watching, pointing out how the movie differed from the book the whole time (much to Diane’s regret). Since I enjoyed the book so much, I believe my expectations were just too high and no movie could have fulfilled them…
I will say this: the fight scene between Dumbledore and Voldemort was truly amazing! I would have payed eight dollars just to see that part alone! It was certainly one part where I was glad they hadn’t completely stuck with the book, especially the flashbacks…
As we were walking out, I mentioned all of this and more to Diane. She agreed with my the thought I had expected too much. However, she decided to take a swing at me, saying I was a Harry Potter Snob! The funny part is she is competly right!
