It was hectic. It was chaotic. It was frustrating. Most of all, it was fun.
This week has been incredibly busy at work. It certainly wasn’t the busiest week I’ve ever spent there. In fact, I only worked on two projects. I didn’t even have to work this weekend. But there were two things different with this week from all the others. First, the work was a consistent level. Secondly, and most important, I got to write code.
I haven’t written code (with the exceptions of my own projects) since my last job @ Vandover. Granted the entire source code for said project is a complete pain to work with. Granted, all I did was string together a series of hacks. Granted, the tiny changes I made took hours to create and test. But it was code! I’d recently given thought to moving my career in the direction of server administration but going back to the code reminded me of why I’d gotten into computers in the first place.
I think this week was one of the best I’ve spent at my job so far. I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy at a job before. I just hope it continues. And if I keep juggling projects, it will.
